Bachelor Degree - What Is The Best One?

By Michael Russell There's no question that the best bachelor degree to get in college is one that prepares you for an actual career. This way, when you get out of college you have a definite path to follow and a more likely chance to land a job. So just what is the best bachelor degree to get? Is there a best degree? Answering this question is nowhere near as easy as asking it. Before we do, let's start by saying that there are some degrees that you can get that literally prepare you for almost nothing. It makes you wonder why they even offer them at all. Some people say it's for those who just don't know what they want to do. Others think it's because some people can't handle the more difficult curriculums of the degrees that are more precisely targeted to a specific field. So what are these degrees that prepare you for just about nothing? The list is actually as long as your right arm but we'll mention just a few of the more popular ones. Psychology is a real favorite for many students. There's kind of a cool thing to tell people that you're a psych major. Unless you're going to become a psychologist, which is really going to take more than just a degree in psychology, there's really not much you can do with a bachelor degree in psychology. Sociology is another one that's pretty high on the useless meter, unless of course you're going to be a sociologist? Ever wonder what a sociologist does? Then there are those who major in things like English Literature. You really have to wonder what somebody with a bachelor degree in English Literature is going to do aside from trying to maybe get a job in the theater or go into teaching. That is what a lot of these kids do who take these courses that really don't have a definitive path. They end up going back to school to get a masters in their chosen discipline or maybe even something else and then with a masters they can get a job teaching at a university. It was probably the last thing they wanted to do, but it's a job. The sad truth is, a lot of kids who get a bachelor degree in some obscure discipline, end up going to work at a Burger King. Maybe if they're lucky, with their education, they do get a management position. The truth is, the best degrees to get are the ones that prepare you for a definite field such as accounting. A degree in accounting prepares you to be an accountant, period. And with all the crazy tax laws changing all the time, we're always going to need a good accountant. A bachelor degree in engineering is another good one. Pretty much the only thing you're going to be when you're done is some kind of engineer. So while there may not be one best bachelor degree, practically speaking anyway, some are definitely better than others. Michael Russell Your Independent Bachelor Degree guide. Simple Weight Loss

By David McCarthy Active weight watchers consistently ask what foods can I eat and what foods should I avoid. This is a genuine thing because if you have set a goal to lose weight you want to be sure that you are eating the right things. The good news is that there are very few foods that you should avoid such as: - Any type of fast food. (Pizzas, burgers etc.) - All soft drinks that fizz. - Never drink beer when you eat, or eat when you drink beer. Beer will stop your body from breaking down fats. What is more important is how much you eat. The excess weight that you put on is the difference between calories digested and calories burnt off through exercise. Therefore if you lead an active life you are able to consume more calories and your activity will burn them off. If your lifestyle lacks physical activity you must consume less calories and search for ways to become more active. Therefore the size of the serving depends upon your lifestyle. The wife of a physical worker needs to serve him larger portions because he needs it to create the energy required to get through a physically exhausting day. The risk that she takes is that by serving large meals to him she tends to serves similarly large meals to herself; often using the excuse that she is only eating two-thirds the amount he consumes. If her activity level is only half of his then two-thirds could be over-eating. In the developed world adults consume on average 3,500 calories each day. Adults actually require 2,000 calories to function properly. Now imagine lowering your calorie intake to 3,000 per day. The 500 calories less consumed each day equates to 3,500 calories per week less or six days food every seven days. It just happens that 3,500 calories equals one pound in weight and if you can lose one pound (450 grams) each week you are at the optimum weight loss level. As a general rule diets that reduce weight by greater than one pound per week are short term and 99% of people put that weight back on. One-pound weight loss per week is the most sustainable amount. How can you achieve this reduction in calories consumed? Easy, at the start of each day decide what you are not going to consume that day. Say Monday becomes no bread day. That means that you do not eat any bread on Monday. More importantly you dont eat more of something else to compensate. Tuesday may be no potato day. Wednesday no cakes or cookies etc. etc. At the same time as you do this you increase your exercise level. Park the car at the furthest point from the supermarket door. Use the stairs rather than an escalator. Take a walk after dinner. Just do things that youve been avoiding and see how quickly you lose weight and keep it off. Anxiety Cures

By Eddie Tobey Given the difficulty that people suffer from anxiety disorders in simply leading their lives, it becomes imperative that they receive the necessary treatment to relieve some of the debilitating symptoms. The good news is that, given that there are a large number of people who suffer from anxiety disorders, there has been many studies done on the disorders, meaning that there are also a large number of treatments that have been formulated to treat them. The treatments that are available to remedy anxiety disorders include a number of approaches, which require that both the patient and the physician take an active role in dealing with the disorders. Below are a few of the approaches that have been formulated so far. Different Approaches to Treating Anxiety Disorders One of the approaches employed in treating anxiety disorders is the self-help approach, which involves a person suffering from a disorder doing breathing exercises, relaxation techniques, and talking with people in support groups. Another approach is counseling, which involves people with anxiety disorders talking with counselors who can help them focus on what they have to do to achieve their goals while dealing with the disorder. Another form of treatment is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which is a form of psychotherapy that aims to change the behavior of people when faced with tense situations. Another approach that is used to treat anxiety disorders is relaxation, nvolving undergoing relaxation training like yoga, which can help a person relax and be calm during an anxiety attack. With regard to the medications that people with anxiety disorders take, some of the most common medications they take include benzodiazepines, Buspirone, anti-depressants, and beta-blockers. Given that there are a lot of people who suffer from anxiety disorders, and the difficulty they face in dealing with the symptoms that come with the disorders, there has been much study done on them. This also means that different treatments have also been formulated to treat them. This augurs well for people who suffer from anxiety disorders because, given the wide selection of treatments they can choose from, their chances of effectively dealing with the disorder are raised. Are Your Loan Officers Employees or Independent Contractors

By Robin Gronsky Many mortgage lenders/brokers treat their loan officers (who are their salespersons) as independent contractors. Those loan officers are paid on a commission based on the successful funding of a loan. The mortgage lenders/brokers pay the loan officers either as each transaction closes or on a periodic basis. The amount paid to the loan officer contains no deduction for federal, state or local taxes. Frequently, the loan officer does not receive any benefits, such as company-paid health insurance or paid sick or vacation time. At the end of each year, the mortgage lenders/brokers issue IRS Form 1099s to their loan officers. As a mortgage lender/broker, you cannot classify whether your loan officers are independent contractors or employees. That task has been given to the Internal Revenue Service, the U.S. Department of Labor, your state unemployment insurance agency, your state department of labor and your state workers compensation insurance agency. Although each agency has its own guidelines, typically the determination turns on the degree of control that the mortgage lender/broker exercises and the degree of independence that the loan officer enjoys. When the mortgage lender/broker has the right to dictate what will be done and how it will be done, then the loan officer is an employee. The government agencies look at facts concerning the behavioral control of the loan officer, the financial control of the loan officer and the relationship between the mortgage lender/broker and the loan officer. The Internal Revenue Service has a 20 factor test to determine whether an employer/employee relationship exists. Such factors include whether the loan officer has to comply with instructions, gets training from the mortgage lender/broker, works exclusively for the mortgage lender/broker, whether the loan officer can independently hire assistants, whether the loan officer has set hours of work, whether there is a continuing relationship, and whether regular reports must be given to a supervisor. The IRS seems to have a bias towards finding an employer-employee relationship. Even if the mortgage lender/broker has a written agreement with the loan officer classifying him/her as an independent contractor, that is not binding on any federal or state agency. If you have been treating your loan officers as independent contractors, when in reality, they pass the 20 factor test as employees, what are the ramifications? If the Internal Revenue Service or Department of Labor find you have misclassified employees, they will require you to pay back withholding taxes plus interest, or they can assess fines that can bankrupt a company, or even file criminal charges against the owners. Once the IRS has come in, other federal and state agencies follow right behind them and assess their fines and penalties as well. If there is anything left, the loan officer can sue for unemployment compensation, retirement benefits, profit sharing, vacation pay, disability or any other benefit that he/she would have received as an employee. Many mortgage companies have gone out of business because they treated many of their loan officers as independent contractors and did not comply with wage-and-hour laws How does the Internal Revenue Service or Department of Labor find out about you? Usually, a dismissed loan officer will file for unemployment benefits or a disgruntled loan officer will make a telephone call to the agency. And the agency will always follow up. You should also be aware that the agency that approved your lender/broker license considers the loan officers to be employees because you have responsibility for their actions. Although some states do not require that the loan officers be W-2 employees, they will not care how you classify the loan officer who is in regulatory hot water. The Banking Departments are concerned that your company supervises the people operating under the auspices of your license. This requires that you supervise the activities of your loan officers regardless of whether you pay them as employees or as independent contractors. After all, you are responsible for any violations of the mortgage lender/broker law, rules and policies committed by anyone, including a loan originator, operating under your license. Therefore, it's in your best interests to supervise them. This Article is designed to be of general interest. The specific information discussed may not apply to you. The Job Seeker's Internet: Just a Pile of Fool's Gold?

By Pierre Daunic According to a July 2002 survey conducted during the Pew Internet and American Life Joint Project, over 52 million people have looked for job information online and more than 4 million continue to do so every day. Furthermore, the study showed, some 47% of all the adult Internet users in the United States have gone online looking for positions or job information. Doubtless, those figures are even higher today, so one might readily assume that the Internet offers the exposure to job leads that the great majority of job seekers want. The truth, however, is less reassuring. Heres why: At first glance, the Internet would seem to be a long-awaited boon to the weary job seeker. There are literally thousands of job sites plus sophisticated search engines to help you sort through them. There are services that will email you fresh openings per your parameters on a regular basis. You can answer help wanted ads online, email your rsum to hundreds of recruiters, explore different career fields, access company profiles, get professional career help oh, the list of goodies goes on and on! And, to be fair, most of the job-hunting helps on the Net are useful to some extent. Yet studies show that, at best, of all the jobs posted on the Internet only 5% are filled that way, leaving a myriad of hopeful job seekers disappointed and angry. Why such a low percentage of hits? Here are some of the reasons: Low exposure to job openings. Most job openings are not posted on the Internet. Part of the reason why is that over 80% of U.S. companies have fewer than 100 employees. Thus, the likelihood that these smaller companies use the Internet to post job openings or to seek employees is correspondingly small. A glut of submittals for each job. For example, a recent report noted that monster.com, which has at least 15 million rsums posted on it at any one time, receives over 4 million new rsums a day. Thus, the likelihood that your rsum will be pulled up by a potential employerwho may be deluged with hundreds of rsums in answer to a single postingis slim at best. An over-fed Monster. Monster.com, the "Big Daddy" of all search engines, pulls a disproportionate number of job seekers who use only it. Thus, once again, too many submittals to too few jobs. Ambiguous job titles. What you call a "CFO," another company may term a "Senior Financial Executive." If you dont enter appropriate search parameters, you may never know of openings that match your background in all other respects. User ignorance. Among those jobseekers with access to the vast and complicated Internet, few know how to use it to its full advantage to seek jobs. Even for the initiated, applying to online jobs can be a time-consuming, frustrating experience. A 2005 white paper about the quality of Fortune 500 company career pages, published by Internet recruiter gurus Gerry Crispin and Mark Mehler, notes that although 41% of online job applications on those pages take 5 minutes or less to complete, over 43% of them soak up 10 30 minutes, and 13% had nothing to which to apply. Furthermore, the bottom 20% of those Fortune 500 companies, they feel, "target no one, engage no one, inform no one, and respect no one." So what are we to do? Clearly, the savvy job hunter if he is to get maximum exposure to job openings on the Internet must research and understand just what is involved, weigh the value of this or that marketing avenue, and proceed accordingly. He must identify those Internet aspects that clearly offer a viable return for the investment of his time, eliminating all others. And, while it would be foolish to ignore the Internet people do find jobs through it, after all the astute job hunter will actively pursue all the other marketing channels knowledgeable seekers use: networking, informational interviewing, telephone contacts, spot opportunities, etc. He will craft a balanced, realistic marketing action plan, one that fully capitalizes on all the job hunting techniques, not just a few. "All that glitters," after all, "is not gold." About the Author: Pierre Daunic, Ph.D., CCM, is a senior management consultant for R.L. Stevens & Associates. About the Company: For over 24 years R.L. The Teen Cellular Phone Market is Growing in Leaps and Bounds

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Catherine_Kenyeres]Catherine Kenyeres Everywhere you turn around, you see someone talking on a cell phone. This latest technological shift in the way we converse with each other has not been lost on teenagers. In fact, experts would agree, that teens are the fastest growing demographic in the cellular phone market. And the parents are paying for their teens to have a cell phone. Why? Having your teen carry a cell phone gives you, the parent, a secure feeling that your teen will be safe with one and the additional expense becomes a mute point. If you are debating whether or not you should get your teen a cell phone, compare plans and do your homework. All key cell phone companies offer family plans as well as free cellular phones. But before you make that purchase. While your main concern may be your teens safety but have you considered what your teens main objective may be? I doubt that it would be his/her safety. I bet your teens objective may be to talk to all of his/her friends on his/her new cool cell phone. Hence, the airtime usage will be astronomical. Therefore, you may wish to seek out a plan that has plenty of free minutes as well as unlimited nights and weekends. Or you may opt for a prepaid cellular plan whereby you will have more control over the minutes used. Secondly, can you depend on your teen not to lose her/his new cellular phone? If you think that this might be an issue, perhaps you should consider a free cell phone plan. While this may cost you money at the front-end, it wont be an extraordinary charge at the backend if your teen comes home without the cell phone. Another tipTeenagers driving and cell phone use. While it is against the law in some areas to drive while talking on a cell phone, you may wish to consider a hands-free kit for the car. Integrated Marketing-Reach Your Customers

By Alexander Gordon Advertising, Public Relations, Direct marketinga company doesnt want to leave a single chance of not getting noticed. That is what Integrated Marketing Systems are all about. In simpler terms, an integrated marketing campaign employs more than one medium of mass communication to reach the target customers. In addition, integrated marketing uses the potential of different media vehicles to grab hold of the senses of prospects. How an Integrated Marketing System Works? In todays world, customers are inundated with advertising messages. A successful selling message must stand out from the clutter as well as in the minds of the customers. Integrated marketing systems help reach the customers by creating awareness, interest and desire for the product. It also leads to an action on the part of the consumer buying the product. For a successful integrated marketing program, it is essential to have a true knowledge of: Target audience: It is essential to understand the habits of your target customers: what they see, what they read, how they commute to their workplace, etc. If you dont know their routine, then you cant reach them effectively. Message Strategy: A marketer cannot put the same message in a print or electronic ad or send the same message in e-mail to the prospects. Still, there should be a reasonable consistency in all the messages. The message should be able to create a clear-cut single brand personality for the product and the business. Media Vehicles: A marketing program should meet the target markets interests and lifestyle. Thus, the media vehicles should be selected accordingly. For reaching housewives, television can work more effectively. For reaching CEOs, billboards and print ads in major business publications work well. This system of integrated marketing can be understood by the following example. Say, for instance, your product is mainly targeted at teenagers. You can do a thorough research about the teenagers lifestyle, their thinking patterns and their latent needs and trends. Most teenagers are Internet savvy, so perhaps you can get your message through via e-mail. You could give them some credit points and discounts for visiting your website and purchasing online. You can also use a calling system for intensive marketing. Besides sending a selling message, it is equally important to quantify the results. If effectiveness of the message isnt measured, then there is a possibility of the investment being wasted because the ads may not be as effective as they should be. It also helps improve future marketing programs. In the modern market, it is not easy to get the attention of a customer. But integrated marketing systems can help reach the customers as widely and intensively as possible. A small business owner can get the help of marketing professionals and special websites to use the techniques effectively and efficiently.
